April Water Safety Focus – Boat Safety Skills
This month, our swimmers are learning essential boat safety skills to help them stay safe on and around the water. Through engaging and practical lessons, children are developing awareness and confidence by learning how to:
👀 Check the weather before heading out boating
🛟 Ensure all required safety equipment is onboard, including wearing a correctly fitted lifejacket
🗣️ Tell someone their trip plan, including where they are going and when they will be back
We emphasise the importance of being prepared before getting on the water by following the WET principle:
- W – Weather: Always check the forecast and water conditions
- E – Equipment: Wear a properly fitted lifejacket and ensure all safety gear is onboard
- T – Tell someone: Share your boating plans and expected return time
These practical skills build awareness, confidence, and real-life safety knowledge, empowering children to make safe decisions whenever they are around the water.
