April Water Safety Focus – Boat Safety Skills

This month, our swimmers are learning essential boat safety skills to help them stay safe on and around the water. Through engaging and practical lessons, children are developing awareness and confidence by learning how to:

👀 Check the weather before heading out boating

🛟 Ensure all required safety equipment is onboard, including wearing a correctly fitted lifejacket

🗣️ Tell someone their trip plan, including where they are going and when they will be back

We emphasise the importance of being prepared before getting on the water by following the WET principle:

  • W – Weather: Always check the forecast and water conditions
  • E – Equipment: Wear a properly fitted lifejacket and ensure all safety gear is onboard
  • T – Tell someone: Share your boating plans and expected return time

These practical skills build awareness, confidence, and real-life safety knowledge, empowering children to make safe decisions whenever they are around the water.

Why Keep Swimming in Winter?

Winter is one of the best times to build strong swimmers. With consistent attendance, children refine technique, improve stamina, and grow confidence. Skills stay sharp, progress continues, and swimmers head into next summer safer and more capable.

Progress Matters

We’re seeing fantastic progress across all levels this term.

To stay connected with your child’s development, make sure you’ve downloaded the Swimsation App where you can:

  • Track level progression
  • View goals
  • Receive updates
  • Stay informed with important announcements

Consistency + visibility = confident swimmers.

Testimonials

Our children swim with Swimsation and have done since they were born, part of the reason we love their swimming programme so much is the water safety aspect they incorporate into the programme every term.

Nicole

My 7-year-old has been swimming at Swimsation Te Atatu since he was just 6 months old. He developed a huge love for water and still looks forward to his lesson every week. Now he’s thriving in his school’s advanced swimming group, plays Flippa Ball, and does Junior Lifeguards.

Stef

Just to say a HUGE thank you for our birthday party at Te Atatu Swimsation! Your excellent customer service made booking easy and your friendly, professional and highly experienced lifeguards made our party all the more special and enjoyable.
